CARTA DE JOY MORRIS 24 ENERO 2013
The art of teaching actors is a unique profession. It requires a deep perception into the hearts and lives of creative people. To be a good teacher, one must be intuitive, have complete knowledge of the craft, be sensitive and not allow ones ego to get in the way of good judgment. It certainly takes a profound need to communicate the best that is within each individual actor. This is why I chose Jackie Kruguer to represent me in Argentina.
I wanted to write a letter to students who are thinking about studying the ‘Morris’ technique to let you know how I came to endorse Jackie as the one and only head of my school when I’m not there.
Jackie has studied acting with me since the late 90’s, worked in my classes on stage and at the same time translated to my students every single word I said. She became my voice literally.
One day when I was teaching, Jackie wasn’t there. Everyone was visibly disappointed. Class began and after about an hour, Jackie unexpectedly appeared. The group, so happy to see her, broke into applause. No one has ever gotten this response from my students. They loved her! They loved her for a reason, she was high-spirited, caring, involved with each person’s work and knew the technique. It occurred to me at this moment that this is someone who would make a perfect teacher for me. She had complete understanding of my technique, my students respected her, they trusted her and obviously the loved her! What better qualities could any one person have to represent me?
After class, I asked her if she would ever consider teaching. At first she was flabbergasted, then excited and finally said, “it’s something I think I would really love and would be good at.” Perfect for everyone, Jackie began teaching.
Many students have studied with me and gone on to say they teach the Morris technique. I’m sorry to say, that some of these people are teaching my technique who I don’t even know and some of the ones that I do know, do not possess the qualities that are necessary to teach such a sensitive creative process.
Jackie is currently coaching this technique to the participants of the new reality show called “EL ARTISTA DEL AñO” in channel 13. The prize is a contract to be the next leading actor of a series.
I am proud to be associated with Jackie, and feel fortunate to have her as a teacher that I can recommend with complete confidence. When you study with Jackie, you will be nurtured, challenged to find your best and your talent will be in good gentle hands.
